This is extremely unlikely to indicate a problem with a hen. The one-off dodgy egg is just a blip in the egg production system, possibly caused by a shock, but usually no cause can be found.

If you do get more than one thin/soft shelled egg from a hen, you may find it helpful to review the amount of calcium your ...

Well my ladies have been laying for 2 weeks now (an egg each every day) and what I have really noticed is the amazing difference in the quality of the eggs. It's not that I ever bought cheap eggs before- I would always go for free-range, preferably sourced at farmers markets like the one at Dun Laoghaire. But I have noticed the following:

Thicker shells- I have to give these a good whack to break the shell.

Vibrant orange yolks- and a few double-yolkers too.

Thick albumen that has a ...

Unrefined apple cider vinegar can be added to the drinking water at the rate of 10 - 20 mls per litre and given in the drinking water for one week every 4 weeks.

The ACV solution is said to reduce the multiplication of bacteria that enters the system as the hen drinks.

Never give ACV in a galvanised drinker as the acid attacks the metal over time.

The unrefined ACV can usually be purchased from agricultural suppliers and horse feed merchants as well as on-line, in 5 litre containers.

Hi there

I am interested in getting some chickens from you. can you tell me what is the ideal size of garden area for the chickens. I was at your stall last weekend in Dun-Laoghaire and I remeber the runs where sufficient. However can you help me. I have a garden that is well fenced. Do I need ot know what height restrictions of the fence is good enough.

My ignorance as to the flying abilities of chickens is limited.

Loved your stall and the chat we had.

Regards
